“Martin Teuber, Head of Corporate Development at WDR in Cologne, discussed with students and Dr. Hüseyin Özdemir, Dean of Human Resources Management (M.A.), Cologne, issues of organizational development, internal organizational consulting and personnel development.
Mr. Teuber gave the students an insight into the exciting role of an internal organizational consultant at WDR. Typical examples of consulting projects include, for example, the reorganization of a department, support for change management in the event of far-reaching change projects, and the design of large-group events such as the executive meeting of WDR. According to Mr. Teuber, the organizational consultants must live up to sustainable consulting in their own day-to-day work and show what is important in this respect in the digital age. The organizational consultancy is thus to be seen as a laboratory and co-designer of the agile and digital transformation.
In order to be able to play this role well with the WDR, one needs among other things qualifications in the area of the organization development as well as knowledge in strategy development, organization design and project management. Experiences in the moderation and presentation as well as an understanding of technology trends and their possible organizational effects are needed, explained Martin Teuber. In addition, social and personal competences are also important, for example, a good ability to analyze and reflect, strategic thinking, a sense of contact, ability to deal with conflicts and resilience.
To these high competence requirements Dr. Özdemir explained: “Our students are well prepared for these high demands, which are generally placed on the organizational consulting role. Together with my colleagues, we work intensively on the specialist competences in the lectures as well as in our practical assignments, which we create for the students during the semester as well as during the lecture-free periods.”
For example, in May this year, students were able to develop skills in the facilitation of large group events together with leaders and coaches. Another workshop for students of the Hochschule Fresenius, offered by the oezpa-Institut, where Dr. Özdemir is active, is planned for 2020.” (Source: Hochschule Fresenius, Cologne)
